There are five things we must do to remain healthy as we get older:
- We must take the right amounts of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and herbs, avoiding chemicals, dyes, and preservatives in foods, avoiding sugar, sweeteners, and processed meat.
- We must take supplemental fiber, eat whole grain foods, and avoid processed foods.
- We should follow a high protein, low carbohydrate, low fat diet, and take a protein supplement within 30 to 60 minutes after exercise. A product called 100% Whey Protein mix, or Soy Protein mix for those people who have milk intolerance, is recommended. This can be mixed with water or with fat-free skim milk in a blender.
- Natural human hormone replacement is extremely important and makes everything else work. These natural hormones act as the catalyst to drive the protein and minerals back into your body tissues and reverse the process of converting muscle to fat as we get older.
- There are two types of exercises we must do:
- Aerobic exercise-these are the exercises that increase your heart rate and cause you to perspire. Exercises like treadmill, fast-pace walking, swimming, and bicycling are recommended.
- Weight resistance or pumping iron-do this carefully and after some instruction. Our bones and muscles have to work against resistance to maintain and/or grow in strength.
